I was surprised by Fresh (2022), in a good way. My sister told me to watch it, she said it was “right up my alley.” So, I’m still processing what she might have meant by that. I love horror films that feel contained and simple. Because when the concept and world is manageable, it leaves a lot of room for character.
I thought that Fresh was both contained, and surprising. It ends up being about friendship and survival, even though the setting is one of the worst case scenarios that I can imagine. The movie was directed by Mimi Cave and written by Lauryn Kahn. I think both the direction and screenplay were excellent. Fresh stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebsastian Stan.
For me, performances shine really bright in this movie. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan are wonderful leads. Best friend JoJo T. Gibbs is the ultimate friend.
Fresh is fun, surprising, horrifying, hard to watch at times and has an excellent soundtrack. I’m also a sucker for a good title sequence, and this movie has an excellent 33 minute cold open before the title card finally plays.
I’m trying hard to not spoil anything for this movie, because I think going in blind makes for a very exciting ride.

Hey folks, horror movies like Fresh linger because they mix social commentary with genuine tension. The shocking moments are memorable not just for scares but for the way they challenge comfort zones. Watching with friends led to long talks afterward about what parts felt most unsettling. Stories that combine satire with dread create an experience beyond jump scares. In these conversations, discovery plus reviews appear as people share where they stream new releases. That overlap between content and platform shows how modern horror reaches audiences.
