Pine Island Cemetery in Norwalk, Connecticut

This is Pine Island Cemetery in Norwalk, Connecticut dating back to 1708. It was previously known as Over River Burying Ground. Right off the bat, this was one of the most well-cared-for historic cemeteries I’ve seen. It even had markers for notable graves and boards with history.

It’s the second-oldest cemetery in town and sits along the edge of the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion; several members of the Lockwood family are buried here. Along with locals, sea captains, and Connecticut state representatives. Around 1,800 people have been laid to rest here.

Pine Island Cemetery and its blooming wildflowers is a beautiful place to walk around and appreciate the history around us.
